The fact that some clients want extended-range forecasts despite their declining quality with lead time means all we can do is let them know the caveats. What they do with the information is always up to them.Chuck Doswellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03099345055614900157noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2759913671101666257.post-29627895174601145072015-01-14T22:00:04.042-06:002015-01-14T22:00:04.042-06:00We have an airport client that insists on 10-day e...We have an airport client that insists on 10-day extended forecasts. We have talked until blue in the face discouraging this, leaning heavily on the very arguments you outlined. They will not budge. They claim planning as an excuse for needing the forecast to go out that far. This implies their planning has to trend relative to the forecast: diminishing skill.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2759913671101666257.post-73407548869615732672015-01-14T09:54:04.810-06:002015-01-14T09:54:04.810-06:00Rob,

I don't care how far the cat is from his bag, and you shouldn't either! If such practice is unsupported by the science, it doesn't matter how long some people have been doing it.Chuck Doswellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03099345055614900157noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2759913671101666257.post-32332463619886690942015-01-14T07:26:37.930-06:002015-01-14T07:26:37.930-06:00While I absolutely agree with your points - since ...While I absolutely agree with your points - since the NWS does 1-degree specific forecasts to 7 days with no confidence interval... Plus if you check their website, they not only give hourly temperatures and other parameters for a full 150+ hours, they also give precip potential and cloud cover to the nearest 1%!

I think the cat is WAY too far from his bag to be able to smash him back in. Especially when the biggest cats are the worst offenders (NWS and AccuWeather).Rob Dalehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00132449143586969553noreply@blogger.com
