The only thing I would add is that for many people their personal priorities are all they care about, there seems to be more importance for some people to watch tv or play video games than to volunteer, participate in politics, or even pick up a book and learn something new. I am only 41 and there seems to be a big change from what I remember growing up. I remember going to more picnics and family events, people were less busy, and did not have all the personal entertainment devices. I also looked at old pictures and people seemed to have much less "stuff". The path of national and personal consumption we "expect" is not sustainable, and it seems like nobody wants to face up to it. That being said, for many it's being stripped away as the middle class erodes. Please keep up the blog entries Chuck, I look for them all the time.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2759913671101666257.post-46278191865877338022011-07-03T12:01:06.012-05:002011-07-03T12:01:06.012-05:00I agree that " ... public education system, f...I agree that " ... public education system, from elementary school right on through to universities, is in deep financial trouble." For college student, they'll just send in Sallie Mae for help! No worries. Until you graduate that is. This year I have lost a so-called "Smart Grant" because of the government's wasteful spending. That grant was valued at around $5000! Thanks Uncle Sam!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2759913671101666257.post-72430312560667390002011-07-03T11:53:10.597-05:002011-07-03T11:53:10.597-05:00I agree that " ... criminalized many American...I agree that " ... criminalized many Americans for a victimless crime - the use of drugs - warehousing many thousands of them in prisons and destroying their lives." Drug abuse, like any other abuse, victim or not, is ultimately a health problem. With that its not surprising that this country hasn't done more to help.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2759913671101666257.post-17454209181829593472011-07-02T18:59:10.001-05:002011-07-02T18:59:10.001-05:00GREAT commentary, Chuck!GREAT commentary, Chuck!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
